Only 33 kilometres from Ulm, this town of 48,000 inhabitants is located in the heart of Germany’s largest water protection area, surrounded by forests and meadows. Heidenheim’s economy is largely industrial. The mechanical engineering company Voith is the largest employer in the town, supplemented by numerous medium-sized manufacturers who have their headquarters here. Companies benefit from the great connections to the trunk road network and regional rail transport, as well as from the many well-educated professionals – from primary to various secondary and vocational schools to the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, every child finds the best possible education in Heidenheim. The cultural scene is equally vibrant, from museums and theatres to opera festivals and the annual Long Night of Music, which was born in Heidenheim.
