Kirschgarten – Experience the best of life in the Munich Metropolitan Region

Geretsried near Wolfratshausen – a place to relax and recharge

Geretsried is situated 35 kilometres south of Munich and is the largest town in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. The town offers easy access to enjoy the natural surrounding: Lake Starnberg is only ten kilometres away, and the Loisach and Isar rivers border the town’s urban centre and the neighbouring town of Wolfratshausen. The nearby Isar floodplains are one of the last European wild river landscapes and a nature reserve. Nearby Bird Island is home to numerous rare bird species.

Residents and visitors alike can feel history in the town’s oldest building, St. Nicholas Chapel, in the local history museum, and on the “Path of History”, which details the town’s long and storied past. In addition to history and local recreation, numerous clubs in Geretsried provide opportunities to participate in sporting activities.

The town has excellent transport links via the two main roads leading to Munich, the B11 and the S2072. Geretsried is connected to the public transport system by several bus lines that leave from Wolfratshausen station. There is a connection to the Munich commuter rail network in Wolfratshausen, nine kilometres away. An extension of the S 7 to Geretsried is planned. Construction is expected to begin in 2024.
